Our next book club meeting will be at 6 o’clock on THURSDAY, JULY 19 at Paula’s house on East Avenue. We’re reading The Summer Before The War, by Helen Simonson.
Here are a couple of reviews of our book, from NPR and The Washington Post.
And if you’re feeling up to it, here’s a reading guide, with discussion questions (!!!!???!!!) from the publisher, Penguin/Random House.
What else is everyone reading? One week into summer vacation, I’ve finished or started 3 books: Prey, by Michael Crichton (quick thriller, literary equivalent of a bag of potato chips); Florida, by Lauren Groff (weird, humid, with snakes); and The Overstory, by Richard Powers, which is amazing and I totally recommend it–but be prepared, you’ll need a good guide to trees and/or the Google to look up all the amazing trees you’ll discover in this novel. I’ve never read anything like it.
What are you reading these days?
